in a sustainable approach to training.  Again, ANYONE is welcome, and all
activities can be modified for different abilities.

            Our belt ranking approach:

Like many traditional martial arts schools, we observe a belt ranking
system.  From beginning student to black belt, the order of rank reflected by
colored belt is as follows: white (automatic), yellow, orange, green, blue, high
blue, purple, high purple, brown, high brown, red, high red, and black.  Each
belt from white to green reflects roughly a quarter (three months) of
instruction and belts from blue to black represent roughly 2 quarters (6
months) of instruction; additionally, students will do an informal test each
month to earn stripes on their belts – resulting in two stripes between each
belt test.  Advancement can be delayed if the Sensei or student feels like
additional time is needed to learn certain skills.  Although a 12 belt system
exceeds the number of belt ranks in many martial arts schools, the increased
number of belts gives the student both a more immediate goal in their
advancement as well as a long-term goal of black belt.  Frequent progress
evaluation and advancement are important for many mature students, who
may struggle emotionally with the issues of aging and training.

DOJO RULES

The Dojo – literally “The Place of the Way” -- is the place that martial arts

students train.  It is not only a physical space, but a mental and spiritual one
as well.  All Dojo’s have basic rules set in place to create an atmosphere of
respect that recognizes that we are our best selves as we train, the way we
would like to be in all of life.  The following Dojo rules apply at KMA:

1.   Always bow in and out of the Dojo. Always bow to you partner
before and after an exercise.

2.   When late for class, bow in and wait for permission to enter the Dojo.

3.   If you need to leave class for a break, water, or any early dismissal, please

do so quietly and respectfully.  Let the Sensei know if you need to leave class
early before class starts.  If you must leave class because you are hurt or ill it
is important to tell the Sensei.

4.   Students should remove all jewelry before class, for their own safety and

that of others.

5.   No smoking, profanity, gossip, unhealthy foods or gum in the Dojo.

6.   Shoes should be removed before stepping into the Dojo.

7.   Never lose your temper in the Dojo, especially in self defense, or free

sparring

8.   Students must always keep their finger and toenails clipped and clean.

9.Listen to the Sensei and don't talk over instruction.
